Extremely caring staff

My husband has been at Avalon House on Oakview Drive since [date removed]. The staff is very caring and attentive to my husband, and always welcoming when my daughter and I visit. I can tell that the staff cares about him, and that my husband is happy there. He has a bright, sunny room that looks out onto the front yard. When the weather is nice the staff will bring him out for walk around the neighbor and when we visit him on a warm day the staff is always willing to bring him outside we can sit together on the porch for our visit.

Couldn’t have found a better place for our mom

My mom is 91 with dementia and with anxiety. She came to Avalon house about a year ago. The Avalon staff are wonderful! They take very good care of our mom. Even her anxiety seems to have decreased here. The professionalism in the level of care that she receives is outstanding.

Wonderful care!

This Avalon house takes wonderful care of my father in law. Staff are very attentive and kind. They know what he needs and provide everything. They are very communicative and let us know how he is doing. They are always happy to see us when we visit.

Great

We have been lucky to find the Avalon house for my mom’s memory care she gets great attention from the staff. It’s seems that the dietary needs are being met because she had a weight problem before she was admitted, It’s getting better now. I would like to see her do more activity or creative activity . Thank you so much for taking the time to write your feedback and review. We are so pleased you are overall happy with the care your mom is getting. We are also so happy you see your mom has lost weight since she has moved in. As you know, we work with a nutritionist at all of our homes. Your mom is just great. However, she does not always want to participate in activities despite our inviting her and offering them to her. We make sure to ask a few times and also honor her "no" when she is clear about it. When she does participate, as you know we do share emails and photos with you. With that, we understand your desire that she would like to do more of them. We will continue to offer them to her and encourage her to participate. We truly appreciate your feedback. It is very helpful.

Great care given by Avalon 2 house

Avolon house is a very welcoming and friendly place. They take wonderful care of their residents. They are very attentive to the residents needs and contact family members whenever any care is of concern or if resident is having medical issues. They have very good food . They take very good care of resident from bathing to dressing and any other care needed . The staff is very friendly and receptive if asked questions.The house is exceptionally clean as well as each residence’s room. [name removed]and [name removed]are wonderful care givers and watch over residents very carefully. They are very friendly to the family members as well . I would recommend the Avalon house 2 to someone in need of care . The care is also very affordable for the great care they get . It is a good memory care facility very small and less residents to care for . The 24 7 care givers are great .

Peace of mind for my sister

My sister's cognitive decline over the past two years has been a heartbreak and a challenge. It was a big job for my wife and me to help her relocate to Northern Virginia, and, while the original home we found suited my sister at the time, her worsening condition meant looking for a new place that could provide a more comprehensive level of care. Thank goodness Avalon House was recommended to us! The Avalon manager we met exuded both warmth and competence, and the caregivers at Oakview Drive reinforced that impression even more strongly. The facility itself is immaculate, in a lovely, leafy setting. But the real standout is the people. Turnover can be high in the assisted living sector, where the demand for personnel is constant and high. Most of the staff at Avalon have been with them for years, and to my wife and me, this testifies to an ethos that treats both residents and caregivers with respect and dignity. We unhesitatingly recommend Avalon House.

Review for Avalon

The staff at Avalon house on 1503 Oakview Drive are wonderful. The staff are very sweet and do a great job in taking care of my mom. They are very kind and patient with her. They always make sure she is clean, fed,, and happy. They also are excellent at letting her children know when she needs something (e.g., diapers, shampoo, etc. One thing I noticed in Avalon house is that it does not smell bad (unlike other nursing homes that we visited). Also, they keep my mom very clean. For me that is very important, and for me that is a sign of a staff that cares for the patients at Avalon. The staff are great! We could not have asked for better care for my mom. We are very appreciative of everything they do for my mom.

Homelike care for dementia patients

Avalon 2 provides top-notch care for a small number of memory care residents in a really beautiful residential neighborhood (greenery visible from every window). The staff is caring and friendly and there's not a lot of turnover, which is especially important in caring for those with dementia. My sister-in-law clearly feels very comfortable with the two attentive, cheerful staff members who provide for her daily care and medication needs. For residents who don't travel easily, it helps that Avalon 2 works with an excellent caring nurse practitioner who makes regular house calls, and also works with the best hospice services provider in northern Virginia. It's hard to believe the care of this quality is available in Mclean for a reasonable price.

Avalon 2 Runs a very efficient home.

We reside at Avalon 2 We love the home it is a much better fit than the other assisted living facility. We like the smaller residential feel for our father and he seems to thrive in a home environment has more one on one assistance. Currently eating three meals a day now and receiving great meals. The care takers are great cooks always smells delicious . They are good atletting us know what we need to provide the best experience for our father .

New home on Oakview Drive

Avalon House on Oakview Drive is the second Avalon House where a loved one has lived. The home is bright and airy and always looks attractive and well-maintained; the staff is responsive to our requests and very professional. My wife always looks well cared for. The home is located in a beautiful neighborhood. After an outing, my wife smiles at the caregivers upon her return and happily reenters the home. We are thankful for having found Avalon House on Oakview Drive.

Caring and attentive staffRo

My dad has been living at Avalon House on Oakview Drive since June 2022. The staff is very caring and very attentive to his needs, making sure he is always comfortable, wearing clean clothes and is bathed daily. The staff is always very welcoming when my mom and I visit. When my dad needs more supplies, they let me know ahead of time so I don't have to make special trip to drop off items. When the weather is nice, they take my dad out for walks or sit with him and the residents on the front porch. I know that my dad is well taken care of and happy.

A great home for mom.

Mom has been living at Avalon house for a year now. She couldn't keep living alone in her apartment. My family and I visited some of the larger senior care complexes but were concerned that it felt less personalized. We felt that an environment that felt more like a home with a larger staff to resident ratio would be best. Avalon met our expectations. We appreciate the staff at the home, especially [name removed] and [name removed], and [name removed] at the office. They are all very responsive. [name removed] and [name removed] really work as a team, cooperating with each other, quickly addressing resident needs. They are kind, patient, have a good sense of humor, and always greet people with a smile. [name removed] has always responded quickly with paperwork requests, questions, and concerns.

My overall experience was about a two. The cleanliness it was very clean I'd give that probably a four or five. The friendliness the administrative staff is very friendly I would give them a five. The nursing Care staff I would give about a two. For the meals probably at 3:00 my dad mostly didn't want to eat their cooking. There were absolutely no activities whatsoever so that would be a zero. The value for the money for me was not good at all I would give it like maybe a two

Thank you so much for your review and reply. I am glad you felt the home was both clean and the management team was friendly. That is helpful feedback. The facility does 2-3 activities per day. That home takes photos and videos of the activities that I email to the families for all residents who participate. While we would offer them to your father, he always refused no matter the activity and time of day. Obviously, we cannot force a resident to participate. From many of our phone conversations and emails, you said that was how he was when he resided with you and that you were alright with that. I am a bit shocked to read that not only that we do no activities since we have more than enough proof to the contrary, but that you are upset about it since we had discussed this a few times and you never mentioned it was an issue for you. In fact, it was quite the opposite. As far as the food, prior to admission you mentioned your father was a picky eater and gave us a list of foods to serve him which we did. We shared with you he did not want to eat much and asked for suggestions as we wanted to ensure he was eating things he liked. During those discussions you mentioned that was exactly was how he was at home when you cared for him and to keep trying and it did not matter the time of day we tried. That meant we were not only offering him 3 meals per day but more than 2 snacks per day at the times he would ask for them. He would get snacks at 3pm sometimes if that is when he requested them. At several points you said, "I know my dad is hard to please and is a bad resident. He was at home also". I truly wish you had either shared what was truly on your mind so we would have been able to work with you better, or you shared the entire story in your review so those reading it, would have the full picture.

We can't say enough good things about the staff at this community, they are exceptional!

This community is excellent, however they do not provide to many activities. They do bring in live entertainment in about once a month. The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff really stood out to us in the beginning. Our main point of contact at this community makes a lot of traditional Jamaican food which the residents really seem to love. Our loved one has a nice size room, and they were very accommodating to us because we did not have any furniture to bring and they provided everything for us. The residents went into lockdown before everyone else did, and the staff has done an amazing job with keeping everyone say, no one has been ill. We are not allowed window visits. the only downfall about this community is they provide care to all type of patients, and some of those patients may act out more that make the other residents feel uncomfortable.

Pretty good facility overall

Avalon House has been a good fit for us. As far as activities, they don't really have any since it's a memory care facility, but I seem to remember something about a gal coming and playing music. Everyone there really seems to really care about who's living there, and it's a small facility with a really good ratio of residents to caretakers.

Wonderful, homey environment, with full age in place

It's really nice, they're wonderful, it's wonderful. My only problem is my husbands not sleeping at night and they haven't said so far, but I don't know if they'll be able to keep him because their business model doesn't work where they can take care of someone who has gained a significant gait instability and restlessness at night. Right now we're working on trying to find medications that will help him sleep at night, they would provide one on one services but that would cost more and I would'nt be able to affored it. In the Northern Virginia area, it's not that expensive and it's really nice. I like the fact that it's small, that they give people personal attention, it's more like a family than an institution, I felt he would like it here more and it seems like he is. Another thing I like is they take them through age in place completely. You pay the same daily amount and you know what your risk exposure is.
